We’ve decided to give our living room an update and try to bring in more color/texture/style. Instead of a monster post I’m going to break it up into a few smaller ones. First up: new furniture
So in the rush to pick out furniture when we first moved into our house in the spring of 2009 we settled on “budget” furniture from Ashley Furniture that had the lines and color we wanted. Plus it was comfortable (still is actually).

back in April of 2009, old furniture arrangement. Loved the oversized chair at the time, but the ottoman was worn and misshapen after only 6 months and banished to the basement. Now the fabric on the couch and chair is ragged and on its way to holey. The coffee table also got the boot after about 6-8 months when the scratches and dings on the dark wood were too noticeable, it did NOT hold up to daily use.
It has held up about as you would expect budget furniture to after 2+ years of daily use by us and the pugs. So after much talk and negotiation, we’ve decided to sell it on craigslist (won’t make much on it as it’s in bad shape) and move on to something better.
I’ve had my eye on the Remo sofa and chair from Macys for the last year. It gets great reviews overall and I’ve talked to people with kids and pets that have had the furniture for 5-10 years that say it still looks great. Plus Macys has a 7 year fabric protection plan, which I think will be worth its weight in gold, especially once we have kids. Sorry for the little pictures.

comfy couch

chair that won’t overtake our living room, no ottoman this time around

it will be more of a tight fit on the new chair but the pugs love to snuggle so we’ll deal
all of the other furniture (that hasn’t been banished) we have is going to stay put: our side tables, our wicker coffee table/trunk, and our media stand.
