About

Hi, I’m Julia!  My husband Tyler and I met during at the age of 19 when we were camp counselors at Presbyterian church camp.  I was not Presbyterian and really I’m not even sure how I ended up working there but I guess it was meant to be.    What started as a summer romance turned into a 3 year long distance relationship:  him in Cleveland and me in Northwest Arkansas.  We got married in 2006 and moved to Washington DC for a year, before moving “home” to Olathe, KS in 2007.  My home town of Lawrence and my home state of Kansas will always hold a special place in my heart no matter where we live.

We rescued our first pug, Toby “Chubbs” in April of 2008.  He was the cutest little pug puppy and grew into the best snuggler in the world.  He loved bananas, stealing the warm spot on the couch, and supervising the neighborhood from the front window.  Sadly we lost him in December of 2014 to cancer.  We miss him every single day, 6 years was not enough time together.

Our second pug, Betty “Boopers” joined our family in November of 2009.  We rescued her from the Northwest Arkansas Pug Rescue who rescued her from a family that just couldn’t deal with her level of energy and kept her locked in their garage.  Boopers loves her daddy (and all men), belly rubs, and getting into trouble.  Her motto is “I do what I like, and I like what I do.”

We had our first child, Gretchen, in July of 2012 (you can read about her birth here). She loves cheese, dancing, and Daniel Tiger.  Hard to believe but she is a preschooler now!  We have lots of fun adventures together that I often chronicle here on the blog.
