Stats: Nothing official, but I weighed her when we were in the doctor’s office recently and she was right around 20lbs.
Size: 9 months. Moved up to size 3 diapers this month.
Sleep: Cora continues to sleep so well, we are very lucky! She goes down around 8pm and sleeps until 8:30 or 9 in the morning. She’s usually awake for about 90 minutes during the day before she wants to go down for a nap. She gets a long one in the morning, a short one early in the afternoon, and another long one in the afternoon. We try to keep her up between her late afternoon nap and bedtime but sometimes she takes a quick catnap while we eat dinner. She doesn’t nap as well in the car as she used to.
Eating: Cora likes a big bottle first thing in the morning (9oz) and then 6oz bottles every few hours throughout the day. We offer her solids at dinner if she’s awake. Her favorites are carrots, bananas, apples, and pears. We’ve offered things like banana and avocado and she has not figured out how to feed herself yet. Her sister was the same. Baby led weaning did not interest her either.
Likes: Carrots, her owl rattle toy, reading books with her daddy, grabbing her sister’s hair, Boopers, blowing raspberries, flapping her arms when she’s excited, sitting up in her boppy and playing with toys, cold teethers, baby pushups (trying to figure out how to crawl).
Dislikes: TEETHING, people that aren’t her immediate family trying to hold her, pureed peas.
Firsts: Sitting in the shopping cart, sitting in her high chair.
Stats: 19lbs (90th %), 27.5 in (92nd %), head circumference 18 in (>98th %)
Size: Had to move her up to 9 month size clothing (6-12 in other brands). Still in size 2 diapers but as soon as this box runs out I’m moving her to size 3.
Sleep: We ditched the swaddle and the bouncer, swing, and rock n play over the last few weeks. She now takes all naps and sleeps overnight in her crib in a sleep sack. The transitions were no big deal at all. We close the curtains, turn on white noise, and she sucks her thumb and falls asleep quickly. Most naps are at least an hour, sometimes 90 min-2 hours. She still sleeps through the night most nights. 8pm-ish to 8am- ish since daylight savings time. Gretchen often wakes up before her sister! She is usually awake for about 90 minutes between naps, sometimes a long stretch of awake time between 5-8. I don’t track them well but I think she takes 2 long naps and 2 short naps a day.
Eating: We moved to big bottles and she takes 6-8 oz per feeding now. We offered her solid food for the first time, some sweet potato puree we had. She is curious about it but pushes most of it out with her tongue, swallowing very little. She has also tried mashed banana and applesauce with the same result. We’ll keep trying!
Likes: Sucking her thumb, sitting while we support her and playing with toys, rolling all over the place, playing in her activity center, blowing raspberries (especially at church!), toys that crinkle and make noise, chewing on things/drooling.
Dislikes: When she’s rolling and gets stuck somewhere.
Firsts: Solid food (sweet potato puree), first tooth (bottom incisor)
Stats: 16lbs 9 oz (85th %), 26 1/2 in long (98th %), head circumference 17.5 in (>99th %!)
Size: Moved up to size 2 diapers. Wearing 3-6 and 6 month sizes but some of those are getting tight.
Sleep: Cora sleeps through the night most nights right now and often wakes up smiling and not screaming to eat. What time she eats last and goes to sleep varies anywhere from 8-10pm and she wakes up between 6 and 8. She takes short naps during the day, usually 30 minutes, sometimes longer in the late afternoon. Usually 4-5 naps a day.
Eating: We started making her 5oz bottles and she usually takes all of it. During the day she wants to eat every 2-2.5 hours.
Likes: Grabbing her feet, getting her diaper changed (this is weird but she laughs while we do it!), her big sister, “talking” (Gretchen always exclaims “Cora said hoo!”)
Dislikes: Tummy time, being woken up to do preschool drop off and pick up.
Firsts: Grabbing things. Talking to herself. Deep belly laughs.
Stats: Nothing official this month but I think she’s gained a couple of pounds and her head is bigger (she is rapidly outgrowing hats). Will get stats at her 4 month appt.
Size: This girl is GROWING. I’ve packed up most of her 3 month sized clothes and brought out 3-6 month and 6 month sizes. At this rate I’m going to need to buy her some more clothes to get through winter as Gretchen wasn’t in 6 or 9 month clothes til spring.
Sleep: Cora slept through the night for the first time at 10 weeks. It was something like 11pm to 6am. Since then she’s repeated that frequently and has done some really long stretches from 8pm to 6 or 7am. Some nights she does wake up at 4 or 5 but she consistently sleeps 5-6 hours straight now.
Eating: I ended up weaning Cora just shy of 10 weeks. She was refusing the breast more than she would take it and there was lots of screaming, popping off, and as a result, clogged ducts. I knew it was time. We’ve been giving her 5-7oz first thing in the morning when she STTN. Then she’ll want to eat every 2 hours or so during the day, typically taking 3-4oz.
Likes: Being on the changing table (this is where she smiles and giggles the most), kicking her feet, staring at black and white pictures, really warm bottles, her playmat, staring at the Christmas tree.
Dislikes: Tummy time, being woken up by her loud sister and pug, wearing hats.
Firsts: Rolled tummy to back (10 weeks), slept through the night (10 weeks), first Christmas, first laughs!
Stats: 13lbs 3 oz (86%), 23 in long (68%), head circumference 16 in (97%).
Size: Still wearing 0-3/ 3 month clothing but I think she may outgrow some of the sleepers soon. I’m going to pull out some 3-6 month clothes and see if they fit. She is growing fast! She no longer fits her newborn size cloth diapers. Wearing size 1 disposables.
Sleep: 6 hr stretch is the longest stretch so far. She has longer stretches of being awake during the day but still naps a lot. Sometimes just 3o minutes, sometimes and hour. It all kind of blurs together honestly. We typically only have to get up with her 2x a night and we each take a turn.
Eating: We are still combo feeding. I usually breastfeed Cora 3 times a day when my breasts feel full. She seems to be growing frustrated with breastfeeding though and screams at the boob a lot, especially in the evening. So we’ll see how much longer she wants it. I’d like to make it to 12 weeks like I did with Gretchen but I’m just following her cues. She typically takes a 4 oz bottle and likes us to warm them up a bit or at least be room temp. She eats frequently in the morning, about every 2 hours, then starts to have longer stretches in the afternoon, frequent feedings in the evening, and long stretches over night.
Likes: Her paci, being swaddled, warm baths, playing on her play mat, butt pats, looking at faces, being around her sister, staring at Christmas lights on the tree.
Dislikes: Cold formula bottles, frequent stops in the car, being woken up by her loud sister and her troubley pug.
Firsts: First smile at 7 weeks old, also started vocalizing around that point.
